Comprehensive Overview of Alternative Investment Funds in Switzerland

07.10.2024 / Peyer Martin, Kronbach Zarah, Battaglia Orlando, Doswald Joël

Switzerland's legal framework for Alternative Investment Funds (AIFs) in the Collective Investment Schemes Act (CISA) offers flexible structuring options for various investment strategies and asset classes. Swiss law provides for both, open-ended and closed-ended fund structures to set-up AIFs.  The recent introduction of the Limited Qualified Investor Fund (L-QIF) in March 2024 has further enhanced these options by reducing setup and operating costs, offering innovative advantages for fund managers.

The latest edition of the 'Legal 500 Country Comparative Guide – Alternative Investment Funds' offers a comprehensive look at these fund structures, regulatory updates, and evolving market trends.

Key topics of the publication

  • Fund structures and investor liability
  • Local tax treatment for investors in AIFs
  • Market trends and preferred legal frameworks
  • Regulatory updates and the introduction of the L-QIF

Our experts Martin Peyer, Zarah Kronbach, Orlando Battaglia and Joël Doswald, contributed the Switzerland chapter.
